They didn't mention the rules changed and even enforced to make housing a "right" or an "entitlement" and I'm not talking about the little house and prairie type homes either.  In other words, we made the market open to all by forcing the banks to offer such loans.

I wonder where this article was during the election?  Yeah, I know, stupid question.

There is plenty of blame to go around among both the D & R parties.

The R's controlled the House and Senate from 1994-2006 so they passed most of this deregulation. Of course Clinton signed it so he is also to blame. And Bush took his lead and ran with it!

The problem is CORRUPTION and I don't see a solution any time soon!

People use the word "deregulation" way too freely.  There is deregulation that allows the free market to work properly and then there is "deregulation" that destroys the free market.  Deregulation such as forcing banks or rewarding banks in giving loans to people that couldn't handle them is the bad "deregulation."

That's what bugs me about the folks whacking away at Reagan when the truth is, the biggest disaster was Carter and Clinton.  I'm serious, I'm not being partisan here.  I agree, Bush ran with the warm fuzzy number of low income people owning homes under his administration.  He is to blame as well but it isn't about deregulation folks.  Be careful how you use the term.

Tim,

If you're not being partisan then explain to me why you keep blaming Clinton when you know full well that the R's controlled the house and senate?

HUNT,

It is the truth.  Even CNN had specials on it stating and quoting the laws placed in those eras.  It was horrible legislation.  I used a bad play on words above so I can see where I deserve it a bit but I'm serious, it is well documented EVEN IN THE NEW YORK TIMES what really caused caused the housing burst.  You know it is something that can't be swept under the rug when the New York Times can't spin it.

The biggest mistake of all is having a federal reserve, second Reagan hiring Greenspan to run it.  The republicans and dems have both eroded capitilism.  So called deregulation is slanted.

Next bill on tap - 15k tax credit for anybody (not just 1st time homebuyers) to buy a home in 2010.   Some think this will pass due to the rising interest mtg rates.   Again another hit on true capitalism.  Why should I pay for some other person to buy a home.  Why keep on trying to jumpstart an economy that is so "FAKE" in the first place.

I agree Shorty. All these incentives can't last forever. We're just delaying reality.
