Nick Simonson, 26, has signed on with Fishing Buddy Outdoors as it's newest Field Staff member. Simonson is an avid fisherman, hunter and writer from Valley City, ND. He has been an outdoor journalist for five years, writing "Our Outdoors"; a column published for the past four years in his hometown newspaper, the Valley City Times-Record.

Video
Over the years we've put out videos when possible. From the bandwidth that has gone through the site we would have to argue they have been popular. However, video has proven to be a full time effort and all of us at FBO have to tend to our jobs, family and of course hunting and fishing! But, we also like video and are currently going through some planning on providing you fresh videos.

In planning, the video section will temporarily be off line while we set up a studio and prepare materials. Look for future videos varying from product reviews, online interviews, to whatever else we find fit or YOU would like to see. There may be some “shootem” up videos but most will focus on informational topics…give us ideas or be interviewed showing a trick or concern on an outdoor issue and we’ll get it on the site!

I've received some emails on video ideas and they are being considered. If you have an idea please email Tim Sandstrom with ideas or other comments. Your input is greatly appreciated and thanks for supporting FBO and don't worry, the videos will be back online soon!

Pacific Salmon Commission Strikes Deal
(Juneau) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) today announced that for the first time in almost 20 years, directed fisheries will be held on the Stikine and Taku Rivers for Chinook salmon. With healthy returns to both rivers in recent years, representatives of the Pacific Salmon Commission, meeting this week in Portland, Oregon, agreed to allow the fisheries to commence as soon as this year.

“With the opening of these fisheries, Alaskans are reaping the reward of a long-term conservation program,” said ADF&G Deputy Commissioner David Bedford. “In this case, the patience of Alaskans is being rewarded with the opportunity to harvest tens of thousands more fish.”

Environmentally Responsible Energy Production
Environmentally responsible energy production in a sliver of Alaska's vast Coastal Plain will reduce America's dependence on unreliable foreign sources of oil by providing America with a homegrown, secure and stable supply of energy. It will create new jobs for Americans here in America. Environmentally responsible energy production is supported by labor unions, farm groups and others in a bipartisan coalition that includes Alaskan Eskimos who live in the area proposed for energy production.

According to legislation most recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, no more than 2,000 acres out of the 19-million-acre refuge will be utilized for energy production. Likewise, in order to ensure that energy production does not have any significant adverse impact on the environment, the best environmental technology and American ingenuity will be required for exploration and development. Exploration will be limited to the winter months between November and May to protect wildlife. Ice roads and airstrips will protect the sensitive tundra. In addition, strict rules will be mandated to protect streams, rivers, springs, and wetlands...MORE
